Every now again you gotta ask...
'Is My Living In Vain?"
Join me as the Clark Sisters get to the root of the question.
I HOPE YOU SHOUT.
Yeah, that's working for me on so many levels. Rinse. Repeat. Turn it up til even the animals get happy. It'll hit you in about an hour.

Domestic Partnership Again.
It seems like I struck a nerve when I decided that Domestic Partnership Is Horseshit. My commentary isn't specific to any ballot or legislative action, it's about realizing that this a small issue in a bigger war. These compromises are a political tradeoff in battle for the elimination of a second class.
My thoughts were shared by Rev. Al Sharpton at the Rainbow PUSH Coalition meeting yesterday in Chicago. He took his text from Exodus (literally "the way out") and spoke about a certain number of the children who got hungry in Israel's wilderness and saw fit to remind Moses and Aaron that there was still meat in the pot back in Egypt.
I believe that many of us are settling for cold cuts in a country capable of feeding the world. A country willing and able to liberate huddled masses around the globe, while affording it's own people a cheap, sweetenin' water substitution for true equality and freedom. This political roundabout is designed to put some kind of nipple in your mouth so you'll simply hush up come 2008.
My response is a simple "no thank you." I'd rather stay in the desert and march toward the freedom land (one we'll have to create), then turn back and build brick without straw for the master.

West By Midwest Tour
Three weeks, three very different locales: Los Angeles, Milwaukee, and New Mexico. I guess that does make cowboys and Indians, doesn't it? You've already seen me in Hollywood, so here's the road notes on the last two.
Milwaukee is Black and cold. What kind of Black folk would want to live in the cold? Chicago Black folk, who had no problem trading in The South Side for better jobs and fresh pussy. Yes, I said it. Compliment that with a mix of migrants from other hard-times towns, and The Brew City has become one of the most segregated metros in the country. Don't be fooled, they have 578,000 people living there and 61.5% of them are not what is traditionally considered to be the majority. Taking a cue from Los Angeleans, the locals I met were quite proud to say that everyone happily lives in "their place." Something must be working for somebody on some level. I just don't get it. Yet, they're very kind and earnest people, and being with them makes me miss the Midwest. Here's a picture of what "class" looked like after a night of sampling the city's wares.

New Mexico is the land of enchantment. Things look different there, and I really did appreciate my second visit to Albuquerque and first to Sante Fe. The tourism gods would like us to believe that all the locals have to do is to sell turquoise on blanket lined sidewalks. I trust there is a greater source for their economy, but I just couldn't put my finger on it. Speaking of fingers, I had to give mine to a few on I-25. Apparently, the land is so enchanting, that it's difficult to let incoming traffic merge into the right lane. On the way out, we stopped by the casino to see if a $10 investment would make us rich. I hope the tribal government makes good use of my donation. All that said, the natural beauty of this place is stunning. Here's a shot via my LG Chocolate:

Domestic Partnership is Horseshit
A Conversation For UsTM
Third in a series about how we're fucking up
We LGBT folk have once again swallowed the bitter pill of mediocrity. Our political operatives are so weak in their disposition that they've adopted the mantra "anything is better than nothing." We're being encouraged by our own kind to vote for these Domestic Partnerships Instead of Marriage initiatives. This political wrangling is a bent-at-the-waist compromise. These laws aren't the hallmark or stepping stones of a civil rights movement, they're the skid marks of the privileged ass on our collective tighty-whitey. It's the manifestation of a poisonous, deep-seated, systemic shame that needs to be bleached out of our community before it creates a stain that embarrasses us all.
Can you imagine a law that would allow women to vote only on special occasions? Maybe one that allows their ballots to be counted so long as we don't call them ballots, and only use them to break a tie. Maybe we should accept a law that allows Blacks to marry, only if their White neighbors agree that it won't damage the sanctity of their happy (and divorce bound) home. Gays voting for domestic partnership makes about as much sense as slaves voting to live free only on the even numbered side of the street. Yes, it's a start, but it's not a serious enough response to our call for justice.
This political halfway house isn't helping our cause, and we know it really to be the gateway to cultural infidelity. This deal is nothing more than a piecemeal sampling of what heterosexuals get as an unplanned birthright. As gays and lesbians, we've got to get our hips back from the welfare table. We've got to spit back the crumbs and demand our own loaf before that trifling dust chokes us all. I'm no longer willing to whore out my community values to be one step closer to that which is considered to be politically expedient by our so-called leaders and allies. Remember, domestic partnerships aren't especially new, they just never materialized as that step-up to marriage that was promised to us the last time around.
This brokered deal will cause a backlash, and in two years our allies will convince us that this ain't so bad and to hush up before we spoil the stew. I sincerely hope that you distrust any community member that insists you help pass a law that codifies you into the second class. Our love is wholly valid. Hold out until they pass a law that provides the whole legal benefit of marriage. The truth is, this is our land and our loves, and we will decide how we want our government to recognize that which is sacred to us.
In the meantime, we've got to be public about our partnerships, and let the light of our love shine so bright, that the common folk wont be able to stand it any more. The path to our freedom lies in our own strength and the resilient, defiant nature of our love.

This article is my better truth, and I stand by it in my heart. On the other hand, people I care about will be hurt by my position. I love them and their effort, but we're going to have to love in disagreement this time around.

Fame Gets A New Walk

Yes, that is my black ass laid out on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. And, yes, that's the star for Liberace who was defeated by Little Richard back in July's Who Wins? feature. Taking an unusual break from working like it pays well, I hooked up a bit of tourism and just strolled down the avenue like I was a provided-for republican woman. Ah, the life! No heels required.
