Bush: Bring liberty to the boogie man!

Political, but this is worth the read.

UNITED NATIONS - George Bush presented international leaders yesterday with his vision of a world made safe by democracy, and said the invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan were just initial steps in the spread of liberty.

"Our wider goal is to promote hope and progress as alternatives to hatred and violence," he said. "Our great purpose is to build a better world beyond the war on terror."

Few people in countries where democracy reigns are likely to argue with the idea that the spread of freedom is a good thing. But most of the UN's 191 member states are controlled by despotic or authoritarian rulers. Perhaps for that reason the U.S. President's address received only polite applause.

I'll be fair and say that, historically, bloodshed has laid the path to freedom. But usually it's the crimson stain of the oppressor that marks the victory of the liberated. In the end, the liberated claim their own victory on their own terms. I'd almost beg to ask, if this is the now popular United States modality of liberation, what the hell happened in South Africa? Oh yes, we did that diplomatically using everything from Jesse Jackson to economic divestiture. What that really means is that we didn't need anything from them, and there was no way good white folk from America were going to die for those savage Negroes. But all is well now, and Mandella enjoys a nice relationship with Oprah Winfrey, the richest Negro in the world.

But I digress. First our goal in Iraq was to execute terrorists, because Iraq is so closely tied to Al Queda. They weren't friends. Then it was to eliminate weapons of mass destruction, so that we could use our own. Couldn't find any. Then the focus was to bring Saddam to justice because he perpetrated genocide. We killed most of his family in process. Hell, we've let so many of our own die over the years anyway.

The truth is, Bush has whined and cajoled his way into making folk believe in an unknown threat to be perpetrated by an ever-changing enemy. It's just like a child screaming that the never-seen boogie man is going to jump out at any given moment and "get him." When the world doesn't come to a halt in his rescue, Bush then delivers a sermon to the UN that begs their repentance, while ensuring that if they don't cooperate he'll be enjoying the rewards of heaven while they roast in hell with the boogie man. Now President Bush says that our wider goal is to promote hope and progress. I guess if you can't kill the boogie man, you might as well love it to death.

Hope and progress. Imagine the war planes over head, the curfew, the armored vehicles roaming your neighborhood. Your countrymen naked in jail cells entertaining angry dogs. I now understand the insurgency. You can't confess your love in the morning, and beat the hell out of me at midnight.

Mr. Bush would like to promote personal freedoms, liberty and justice, and some of that good 'ol American dream. If only he would point his hardened nose west, to this Purple Mountain Majesty. I'd welcome some hope and progress in these United States of America.

How can the hopeless make progress in a foreign land, when their own country suffers the hand of a ruthless leader elected by a privileged minority, who incidentally has a boogie man complex? Our true opportunity for hope and progress lies within your actions on November 2nd. Don't let the crimson stain that permeates the soil of America lie in vain.

thrill

(v.) to feel sudden intense sensation; to fill with sublime emotion.

"When I look at him I get this sort of thrill that feels like something jumping up and down inside of my soul." It's his being that gives me a thrill. I'm excited just looking at him, being in his space. And him being in mine. All of this without a word or a touch. Feeling him is wonderful. Being with each other is sublime.

Miss Anita has released her new album "My Everything". You must own it. Get up now and go to the store, pass up the Fritos, the Almay, look just past the batteries and get you a legal copy. If you don't know, Anita Baker is the soul sister who defined the smooth jam ballads of the 90s. Simply put, she makes Jill Scott, Macy Gray and all them look ragged (but I love them too). If ya do know, get this here and it will bring you alllllll the way back.

Now. I'm tellin' you this. You have not been in love, made love, or seriously thought about being in love unless at some point in life you've played some Anita Baker to help you tell it, get over it, or think about it. And, my friends, we know that makin' a mess in not makin' love. Get some Anita in your life. Show ya' love. Details

the real selfish hedonist

In case you haven't heard, a leading Republican just decided that homosexuals are selfish hedonists. This remark was directed in reference to Mary Cheney, you know the VP's lesbian daughter.

Selfish being cheifly concerned with oneself, and hedonists meaning "pleasure seekers."

Hmm.. Pleasure seeker. Look below, and tell me who the selfish hedonist is. Mouse-over for clues!

NEW YORK - Republican U.S. Senate candidate Alan Keyes refused to back down Wednesday from calling Vice President Cheney's lesbian daughter a "selfish hedonist," even as Illinois GOP leaders called Keyes' remark "idiotic," "extremely inappropriate," and "shameful."
