Bush: Bring liberty to the boogie man!
Political, but this is worth the read.
But I digress. First our goal in Iraq was to execute terrorists, because Iraq is so closely tied to Al Queda. They weren't friends. Then it was to eliminate weapons of mass destruction, so that we could use our own. Couldn't find any. Then the focus was to bring Saddam to justice because he perpetrated genocide. We killed most of his family in process. Hell, we've let so many of our own die over the years anyway.
The truth is, Bush has whined and cajoled his way into making folk believe in an unknown threat to be perpetrated by an ever-changing enemy. It's just like a child screaming that the never-seen boogie man is going to jump out at any given moment and "get him." When the world doesn't come to a halt in his rescue, Bush then delivers a sermon to the UN that begs their repentance, while ensuring that if they don't cooperate he'll be enjoying the rewards of heaven while they roast in hell with the boogie man. Now President Bush says that our wider goal is to promote hope and progress. I guess if you can't kill the boogie man, you might as well love it to death.
Hope and progress. Imagine the war planes over head, the curfew, the armored vehicles roaming your neighborhood. Your countrymen naked in jail cells entertaining angry dogs. I now understand the insurgency. You can't confess your love in the morning, and beat the hell out of me at midnight.
Mr. Bush would like to promote personal freedoms, liberty and justice, and some of that good 'ol American dream. If only he would point his hardened nose west, to this Purple Mountain Majesty. I'd welcome some hope and progress in these United States of America.
How can the hopeless make progress in a foreign land, when their own country suffers the hand of a ruthless leader elected by a privileged minority, who incidentally has a boogie man complex? Our true opportunity for hope and progress lies within your actions on November 2nd. Don't let the crimson stain that permeates the soil of America lie in vain.
UNITED NATIONS - George Bush presented international leaders yesterday with his vision of a world made safe by democracy, and said the invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan were just initial steps in the spread of liberty.I'll be fair and say that, historically, bloodshed has laid the path to freedom. But usually it's the crimson stain of the oppressor that marks the victory of the liberated. In the end, the liberated claim their own victory on their own terms. I'd almost beg to ask, if this is the now popular United States modality of liberation, what the hell happened in South Africa? Oh yes, we did that diplomatically using everything from Jesse Jackson to economic divestiture. What that really means is that we didn't need anything from them, and there was no way good white folk from America were going to die for those savage Negroes. But all is well now, and Mandella enjoys a nice relationship with Oprah Winfrey, the richest Negro in the world.
"Our wider goal is to promote hope and progress as alternatives to hatred and violence," he said. "Our great purpose is to build a better world beyond the war on terror."
Few people in countries where democracy reigns are likely to argue with the idea that the spread of freedom is a good thing. But most of the UN's 191 member states are controlled by despotic or authoritarian rulers. Perhaps for that reason the U.S. President's address received only polite applause.
