Giving The Gift
I'm not even going there.
When you get a little age behind you (and hopefully sooner), you start to realize what a gift really is. Conventional wisdom says that the best gift to give is something that the recipient would not buy for themself, or that they would find too selfish or impractical. Or something that you know that they'd be surprised to find enjoyable. I enjoy giving gifts, and although it's the thought that counts, I spend a lot of time selecting just the right item to bestow upon the beloved.
Spend a lot of time.
Time is our ultimate gift. Set your capitalism aside, and realize that time is a finite resource. When we leave this planet, there might be some money left, but our time truly has expired. Consider your time a precious gem, to be given wisely, yet liberally to those who matter most. For those who have your time really have you. Time isn't returnable, and there is no gift receipt. But those who get your time will love you for it, and they'll treasure it more than anything that can be bought or borrowed.
Spend a lot of time. Invest it into people who offer a return on your investment. Neglect the good people with things, and they will disappear. And we all know that daddy's check isn't near as warm as his presence. I'm thinking of all the very nice and thoughtful gifts that were sent my way across hill and valley, and I'd trade them all for just a few hours of the senders time.
Be blessed this Christmas!
